Immediate Dentures in Kingston, Ontario

An immediate denture is prepared in advance and placed right after your remaining teeth are removed by a dentist or oral surgeon, so you are never without teeth. At Nova Denture Clinic in Kingston, we plan immediate dentures carefully and coordinate with the provider performing your extractions.

What is it?

With a conventional denture, the gums heal for a period after extractions before the denture is made. An immediate denture is made beforehand from records taken while your natural teeth are still present, and it is inserted on the day of the extractions.

Because the denture is made before healing, the fit changes as your gums and bone remodel. Immediate dentures usually need more adjustments, and often a reline or a new definitive denture once healing is complete.

Who may benefit?

An immediate denture may be worth discussing if you:

  • Are planning full extractions and do not want to go without teeth during healing
  • Have remaining teeth that your dentist has advised cannot be predictably saved
  • Are comfortable with a plan that includes follow-up adjustments and a later reline or replacement

This page cannot diagnose your situation — a consultation is the right place to find out what suits you.

Potential benefits

  • You leave the extraction appointment with teeth in place
  • The denture can help protect the healing tissues, like a bandage
  • Appearance and basic function are maintained during the healing period

Realistic limitations

  • Fit changes significantly as the gums heal and shrink — relines are expected
  • A try-in of the final appearance is limited because natural teeth are still present
  • A definitive new denture or reline is usually recommended after healing
  • Extractions are performed by a dentist or oral surgeon, not by the denturist

The treatment process

  1. 01

    Complimentary consultation

We review your oral condition, coordinate with the dentist or oral surgeon performing the extractions, and plan the immediate denture.

  2. 02

    Records before extraction

Impressions, measurements and tooth selection are completed while your natural teeth are still present.

  3. 03

    Insertion on extraction day

The denture is placed immediately after the extractions by arrangement with your surgical provider.

  4. 04

    Healing follow-up

As your gums remodel, we adjust the denture and plan a reline or definitive denture when healing allows.

Adaptation, maintenance and follow-up

Follow the post-extraction instructions from your dentist or oral surgeon alongside our denture guidance. Expect the fit to loosen as healing progresses — this is normal and is managed with adjustments and tissue conditioning or relines. Keep every follow-up appointment during the first months.

Cost and coverage

Immediate dentures involve additional steps and follow-up care, and fees reflect your individual plan. Some immediate denture services may require preauthorization under CDCP. We confirm coverage and explain your expected portion before treatment begins.

Common questions

Will the immediate denture fit well right away?

It is made to fit your mouth as it is before extractions, so early fit is an estimate. As healing changes the shape of your gums, adjustments and relines restore the fit. This is a normal, expected part of immediate denture treatment.

Who performs the tooth extractions?

Extractions are performed by a dentist or oral surgeon. Nova designs and provides the denture and coordinates timing with your surgical provider as part of collaborative care.

How long until I need a reline or new denture?

Healing and remodelling are most active in the first months. Many patients need a reline within the first year, and some choose a definitive new denture once tissues stabilize. Timing varies by person.

Can I see how the teeth will look beforehand?

Tooth shape and shade are selected with you at the records stage. Because your natural teeth are still present, a full try-in is limited compared with conventional dentures — we explain what to expect at your consultation.
